What to expect on your ice canyoning trip
Once you’ve wrapped up warm, set off on an ice canyoning trip in the Jura Mountains. Experience the thrill of canyoning in a winter setting, amidst snow, ice and wild landscapes.
As you make your way down, progress through the canyon by abseiling down the waterfalls. The route is mainly vertical, which means you can avoid long stretches in the water and enjoy the activity to the full in good conditions.
This tour is available as a private group tour, ensuring personalised guidance and a pace tailored to your group.
Winter activities without skiing
Ice canyoning is a must-try activity for enjoying the Jura in winter without skiing. Experience the mountains in a different way, particularly when snow conditions are poor for skiing in the Monts Jura resorts or on the Plateau de Retord.
Choose from two canyons for your outing
Depending on your location and the conditions, we offer two canyons of a similar difficulty level in the Jura, near Saint-Claude or in the Pays de Gex.
Ice canyoning at the Bief de la Goulette in Jeurre
The Bief de la Goulette canyon is a fun course featuring seven stunning obstacles, including a magnificent 30-metre waterfall at the end!

Ice canyoning at La Sandezanne in Montanges
The Sandezanne Canyon is a course featuring six consecutive obstacles, culminating in a 45-metre waterfall! There’s also a slide halfway down for those who aren’t afraid of a bit of a thrill!

Frequently Asked Questions – FAQ
What is ice canyoning?
Ice canyoning is a winter activity that involves descending a canyon using rope techniques such as abseiling.
Is it cold during the activity?
Depending on the weather, it can get quite cold even if you’re properly kitted out. In the event of bad weather, we try, where possible, to reschedule the outing until the next sunny day to ensure everyone’s comfort.
If you don’t like the cold, why not try another activity, such as a winter via ferrata?
What level is required to take part?
No technical skills are required. The activity is suitable for beginners who are in good physical condition.
How long should I allow for this?
Allow 3 hours for the activity.
Is it compulsory to know how to swim?
Yes! Swimming sessions are compulsory. If you can’t swim, we can suggest other activities.
I wear glasses – can I take part?
Of course! Make sure you bring a cord. Your guide will explain how to keep them from getting lost or damaged. Ideally, bring an old pair. Better still, wear contact lenses if you can.
What if the weather is bad?
The guide may change the itinerary. If the activity cannot go ahead, we will reschedule it for another day. If this is not possible, we will cancel it. In that case, you will receive a full refund.
