Canyoning in the Jura for summer camps, leisure centres and school groups
Canyoning is an activity particularly well-suited to groups of young people on summer camps, at leisure centres or on school trips. Participants navigate a river together and gradually explore a unique natural environment, under the supervision of a professional.
With activities ranging from wading through water and small jumps to natural slides and abseiling, this activity offers a fun and dynamic experience whilst fostering mutual support, trust and team spirit.
There are several canyons around Saint-Claude and Clairvaux-les-Lacs where you can organise an outing tailored to the participants’ ages and the group’s ability level, in a safe environment.
Potential canyons
- Canyoning at Grosdar in Saint Claude is perfect for a first-time experience. It’s fun and suitable for everyone;
- canyoning in the Gorges de Malvaux at Foncine-le-Bas, a powerful and exhilarating river;
- Canyoning in Chaley in the Bugey: easy, fun and very scenic.
Via ferrata in the Jura for groups of children and teenagers
Via ferrata is an ideal activity for introducing young people to climbing in complete safety in the Jura. Equipped with harnesses and secured to a safety line, participants make their way along the cliff face on specially equipped routes.
This activity helps to build self-confidence, manage anxiety and foster a sense of mutual support within the group. It also offers stunning views of the Jura landscape.
There are several via ferrata routes in Franche-Comté, making it possible to organise outings tailored to the age and ability of the participants.
Possible via ferrata
- the Lac de Vouglans via ferrata, which isn’t particularly technical but offers magnificent views;
- the Roche au Dade via ferrata in Morez, a route that takes you up into the hills with views of the Jura Mountains;
- the Fort l’Ecluse via ferrata, a fairly steep route offering views of the Rhône, Mont Blanc and Geneva
Caving in the Jura for youth groups
Caving offers the chance to discover the underground world of the Jura by exploring caves and natural caverns. It is a unique activity that breaks the mould and sparks young people’s curiosity.
Under the guidance of a professional, it allows you to explore the tunnels safely, navigate obstacles and, at times, use specialist equipment such as ropes.
This activity helps children develop independence, a spirit of cooperation and the ability to adapt to new surroundings.
Possible caves
- the Pontoise Cave, which is easy to explore and accessible even for very young children;
- The Coinans Cave, which offers a fun and varied experience, can be explored in half a day or a full day;
- The Grotte des Forges at Lac de Vouglans: an underwater trail where you can swim underground!
Rock climbing in the Jura for school groups, leisure centres and summer camps
Rock climbing is an accessible activity that allows young people to explore vertical surfaces at their own pace. Supervised by a professional, it takes place on specially equipped cliffs in the Jura, using safety equipment.
Each participant works at their own level, which allows everyone to improve whilst building their confidence. The activity encourages teamwork, concentration and the ability to pace oneself.
It’s the perfect way to round off a trip in the great outdoors with an educational twist.
Possible cliffs
- the Goulette cliff in Mijoux, a magnificent rock in a peaceful woodland;
- the Mont Robert crag in Moirans-en-Montagne and its routes, which are up to 30 metres long.
