The initiation chambers:
- Pontoise Cave: a fun and accessible underground walk with optional abseiling sections.
- Grotte des Forges: An underground river where you’ll have to swim to make your way through.
Sports facilities:
- Coinans Cave: a fun adventure trail combining low passages, abseiling and a crossing of an underground river (full-day trip).
- Gouffre du Haut-Crêt: a technical and aerial route involving a series of abseils to reach a depth of 110 metres. The return journey involves climbing back up the ropes left during the descent.

Safety, supervision and equipment

The caves are located near Saint-Claude, in the immediate vicinity of Les Rousses station, Lake Vouglans and Clairvaux-les-Lacs. The journey by car from Geneva, Lausanne, the Pays de Gex, Lyon or Dijon takes between 1½ and 2 hours.

Yes, VIP Tour Spéléo excursions are also suitable for beginners. No prior experience is necessary. The guide will explain everything you need to know.
How long should I allow for this?
Allow 3 hours for half-day trips and 5 to 6 hours for full-day trips. Some trips may take longer; for example, the Gouffre du Haut-Crêt trip takes 10 hours.
Where are the caves located?
We offer a range of caves of all difficulty levels in the Jura. They are located near Saint-Claude, 40 minutes from Clairvaux-les-Lacs and the resort of Les Rousses. It takes about an hour’s drive from Geneva or the Pays de Gex.
I wear glasses – can I take part?
Of course! Make sure you bring a cord. Your guide will explain how to keep them from getting lost or damaged. Ideally, bring an old pair. Better still, wear contact lenses if you can.
What if the weather is bad?
The guide may change the itinerary. If the activity cannot go ahead, we will reschedule it for another day. If this is not possible, we will cancel it. In that case, you will receive a full refund.
